James 4:15-17

James 4:15-17

Planning one's life is something we all do in some way or fashion.  In the last post, I already explained that planning to do great things is rather pointless.  But there is always a loophole isn't there?  Surely if when we say to another person, "I'm going to travel China and become a famous singer," it would be okay as long as I added the words, "If the Lord wills it," at the beginning.  Yeah, no.

That is actually what you should say at the beginning.  It is the reason behind it that is wrong still.  You are boasting.  It doesn't matter if you bluntly boast like in the last post or arrogantly boast as I showed here.  Boasting is evil.  You can read that in James 4:16 at the end of the text.  We were called to be humble.

Personally, when someone boasts a lot, I tend to start to withdraw from them.  Their words create negative feelings: inadequacy, jealousy, lustful admiration... but for everyone it is different.  People are quick to congratulate, but after too much it has the opposite affect that God's people should be creating in others.

So if you know that you are supposed to life a good life a certain way and how to go about that whether it is your words or attitudes... then don't.  You have sinned.

And a quick reminder.  Sin is deadly.
