1 Peter 1:17-19 (Part 2/3)

"And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one's work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear;

knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers,

but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot."

~1 Peter 1:17-19

We respect and honor God because He did something that no one else could do.  Something so wonderful and magnificent that we are over-awed by Him.  Yes He spoke and things were created in nano seconds.  Yes, He can make even His enemies tremble and fall down with His very presence.  But there is something more that we, as believers in Him, focus on more.  We, the human race condemned to death, were granted hesed by the only One who could offer that mercy and gift.  We were pulled off death row.  Not with things like gold or silver.  Not with things like stocks or oilfields.  Not with land or services.  We were pulled off deathrow by someone else taking our place and letting His body bleed in our place.  Not another human, for another human faced the same punishment.  Instead, we were pulled off deathrow because God came and took our place.  He stood where we should be and let the metaphorical guns be leveled at Him instead, a fate that no one could change for us but Him.  That is what makes it hesed.  We were saved by the only One who could save us, and He did.
