This is one really cool verse that brings so much to the forefront.
"in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,"
God made a promise. A promise that we will someday be able to live with Jesus for all eternity. That is one promise I am eager to have come to pass.
That is pretty awesome by itself, but another aspect of this verse is that God cannot lie. Everything He says is the truth. When He gives us His Word, He always keeps it.
Sidenote:
But what about His promise to destroy Nineva? In a way He did. The horrible, wicked city no longer existed because God's Holy Spirit brought the Truth to the people and they accepted it. It was a spiritual cleansing instead of the physical.
This brings us a lesson. We have a choice. Accept God's spiritual cleansing and live with Him, or deny God's Gift and be destroyed by fire when the Earth is cleansed at the end of time.
