Staff Worship

Today in staff worship, I was giving a talk with a devotion book by Dwight Nelson.  It was on Jesus' talk to his disciples in the upper room.  He said that people would know that they were followers of Christ by their love.

This is a theme we have been studying all week and looking at in detail.  It has been really rewarding.  The kicker was what today's thought was and it gave way to a good discussion.

We read and talked about what Jesus does not say.  He doesn't say, "they will know you are my disciples... because you keep the Seventh-day."  All in that room kept Saturday as the Sabbath, yet He didn't talk about that.

He doesn't say, "they will know you are my disciples... because you believe in the second coming of Jesus."  That isn't the identifying mark that Jesus talks about.

Jesus gives them this important talk and says one thing.  That they will know you follow Jesus because of your love for other people.  It doesn't matter your race, gender, education, socio-economic standing.  Just love each individual human.
