Context: We have been reading about false teachers or leaders who are not speaking the truth.
People who don't tell the truth and are leaders via false means are not on God's path nor are they good people.
There was a prophet who was supposed to be a follower of God. Yet he was tempted by worldly riches to say things that weren't true for personal gain. This was wrong of him. When a person tells lies (white lies or big lies or harmful lies alike) then they are compared with someone who has gone mad. Become insane. Not mentally stable.
You might say it is a slippery slope, but I truly believe those who lie for personal gain are mad. Those who lie, no matter if they are stretching the truth or outright wrong, are in need of more than an attitude adjustment.
When people of such importance (or self-importance) lead others without speaking the entire truth, it takes something very shocking to get their attention. They then have a choice (again as you always have a choice) to either make things right (and the cost might be high) or to continue as you were. If you continue as you were, then you are purposefully choosing a sinful path.
